Special Issue 's Guide

Special Issue Title 1:Industrial Applications of AI & ML

As it is well known, the fundamental idea behind the fourth industrial revolution is the Artificial Intelligence, and its first derivative, the Machine Learning. Both, can replace human decisions when the analysis have to take into account a large quantity of data, real-time data and/or the readiness can be critical. In addition, the process of learning that these tools have, make them suitable to optimize industrial processes in terms of time, consumption of energy, water, and other resources, emission of air pollutants, expenses, etc… In parallel, as most of new devices include sensors, connection capacity and actuators, there are lot of possibilities to implement artificial intelligent and machine learning, either on their own, or as a part of a set, system or even a whole line of production. Moreover, manufacturing industries will benefit immensely from the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning: light industry (i.e. food), electrical and optical, chemical, materials and heavy industry (i.e. automotive). Therefore, research works related with the industrial applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning, from a theoretical or practical point of view, are of interest for this special issue. Besides, reviews including analysis, integration and/or references of previously published works are also welcome.

Special Issue Title 2: Smart Cities

The continuous innovation process drive the cities one step forward to improve citizens life under sustainable development. Current technologies make it possible to take a large amount of data, analyze them and decide over several scenarios, all steps under no-human intervention. Weight sensors that let the drivers know about possible parking spaces, waste containers that notify that is collection time or measuring air quality in order to reduce pollution, are more common every day but more applications and more specific ones are needed. On the other hand, to reduce the consumption of energy and other resources, to take advantage of recycling and to take decisions from the point of view of sustainable development, are aspects that are taking into account these days, but can be critical from now on. It is expected that the following concepts will have further development along these years: Building control and automation, efficient urban planification,  sustainable mobility and transport, smart waste management, environmental sustainability, improvement of social environment, education technologies, e-health, government transparency, e-commerce and open data, among others. Therefore, research works related to these aspects, from a theoretical or practical point of view, are of interest for this special issue. Besides, reviews including analysis, integration, and/or references of previously published works are also welcome.

About Special Issues
A Special Issue suggested by the Lead Guest Editor is a collection of articles on a hot topical research area within the scope of the journal. The Special Issue will provide a venue for research on emerging areas, highlight important subdisciplines, or describe new cross-disciplinary applications.
Propose a Special Issue
We welcome proposals from interested parties for Special Issues on topics of relevance to the aims & scope of the journals. The objective of Special Issues is to bring together recent and high-quality works in a research domain, to promote key advances in theory and applications and to provide overviews of the state-of-the-art in emerging domains. Once your proposal is accepted, you will serve as the Lead Guest Editor.
If you have an idea for a Special Issue, please download the Special Issue Proposal Form and fill in all the required information. The completed Special Issue Proposal Form shall be submitted by downloading the proposal form and submitting it through Email: Artificial_Intelligence@oajaiml.onmicrosoft.com
